Why go
JB's most iconic takeaway — a century-old (est. 1919) charcoal-oven bakery that Singaporeans cross the border for. The wood-fired banana cake is the headline: sold by the loaf, still warm if you time it right, with otak-otak and curried potato buns as the supporting cast.
Timing matters. The banana cake sells out by early afternoon, and weekends see queues from opening — though the queue moves fast. Buy extra buns for the ride home. It's so famous it's now even sold via a vending machine in Bukit Panjang, Singapore (since May 2025).
Rest day is murky — go Tue–Sat morning
Sources conflict on the rest day: one 2026 guide says closed Sundays, while a Sep-2025 guide lists Sunday hours “till sold out”. The safe play is a Tuesday–Saturday morning visit.
